Abuse Reporting

All employees have an affirmative duty to report all actual or suspected cases of child abuse, abandonment, or neglect.

All employees should be familiar with the signs of abuse and neglect. A report should be made to the state abuse hotline or on their website if you suspect any abuse or neglect or are aware of any actual abuse of neglect.

An incident report should be submitted to the Director if you make a report to the abuse hotline or online.

Misconduct Reporting

Florida Statute requires that all employees and agents of a district school board, charter school or private school have a duty to report misconduct by instructional personnel or school administrators which affects the health, safety, or welfare of a student. If you are aware of or observe misconduct, report immediately.

How to report misconduct?

  • Report allegations or suspicion of misconduct by an instructional personnel member to the school administrator.
  • Report allegations or suspicion of misconduct by your school administrator to your district contact
  • Document the activities or details of the event.
  • Secure evidence (if applicable)

Examples of misconduct:
Obscene language, drug and alcohol use, disparaging comments, prejudice or bigotry, sexual innuendo, cheating, testing violations, physical aggression, accept or offer favors.

Failure to report misconduct:
Possible penalties for instructional personnel or site administrators who fail to report misconduct may include:

  • Written Reprimand
  • Suspension with or without pay
  • Termination of employment
  • Discipline/Sanctions on an educator’s certificate
